Friday Favorites

If you live in the Northeast, chances are you had a snow day this past week thanks to Juno. While it (thankfully?) wasn't as severe as predicted, at least in NYC, I will never turn down the chance for a snow day - even if it involves working from home. M and I snuck out to our local park for a quick walk before the sun went down and I had a blast watching all the neighborhood kids (and adults!) hurling themselves down the park hills on all manner of sleds.

Some favorites from around the web this week:

This foreign film, 'Girlhood' looks amazing.

I think I need a pair of these

Awesome tips for selecting wines. Speaking of, have you seen Speak Wines? Such cute packaging! I'm not usually a Malbec fan, but I almost want to order one to try just based on the packaging/branding alone!

Did you catch Meg's GSD column featuring Clair Vivier?

We're heading to Miami next weekend for some sun, sand and a bit of blue sky. I'm making a list of places to eat and things to see - any recommendations?

A Snowy Day Hideaway

Saturday was one of those wintry New York City days where its miserable to be out and about, but luckily for me, I had plans to meet up with the lovely Jackie of York Avenue at Toby's Estate at the Club Monaco flagship shop. The Flatiron location is connected to a miniature Strand Bookstore as well as a Toby's Estate coffee shop, making it a perfect place to spend a few hours browsing books, fashion, flowers and of course the fantastic interiors while caffeinating and escaping the weather.

Catching Up

Its been so long since I posted I almost don't know where to begin!

But to start... M and I got married the weekend before Thanksgiving at the Carlyle hotel in New York City. We had an intimate ceremony and reception with our families and close friends which suited us perfectly. We are so thankful for everyone who traveled to be with us, it truly meant so much to us to be surrounded by loved ones on this special occasion.

Our amazing photographer Emilia Jane captured the day perfectly. More of her photos from the day can be seen here

Now that the wedding craziness has passed, I'm hoping to get back to posting more regularly, starting with some photos of our trip to South Africa!

End of Summer

I really can't believe Labor Day Weekend has come and gone, the summer has absolutely flown by!

In all honesty blogging hasn't been a focus these past few months. A new(ish) job, wedding planning, summer travels and family and just trying to live life, have all (as they should) taken priority. Sure, I've taken tons of pictures, and have lots of great stories to share, but every time I sit down at my computer I get distracted with something else. However, I really do miss it, and want to make a concerted effort to get back in to it. So, here is a (brief) recap of summer 2014.

San Remo, Italy (Part I, Part II, Part III, Part IV)
Providence, RI
Northfork, Long Island
Washington, D.C. & Pennsylvania
We had a whirlwind weekend in DC and PA visiting family and friends. M and I lived (and met!) in DC, so its always fun to go back and visit our old haunts and see whats new.

Wedding Planning:
I shared some inspiration here, but since then we've made significant progress! We have all of the vendors and most of the miscellaneous to-do's taken care of, so now its down to the details. Things left to check off the list: finalizing my dress, finessing the ceremony, hair and makeup, favors for the guests and figuring out a tentative schedule for the week/day of.

My job is 10% insane, 90% of the time, or perhaps its 90% insane, 10% of the time... or maybe its both. But I love it and it definitely keeps me on my toes!

Its been an awesome summer, but I have to say, as always, I'm super excited for fall!

How was your summer?!

Wedding Inspiration

Well consistency certainly hasn't been my strong suit when it comes to blogging these past few weeks months!

We are somehow about four months out from our wedding (when did that happen?!) and suddenly our 'lets be relaxed' approach is coming back to haunt us! Our major stumbling blocks right now are the photographer and officiant. With regards to the photographer we are having a hard time finding one who we genuinely like their work and fits with our budget. We did another round of research this weekend and found what look like some good options, so hopefully things are coming together. The officiant is another tricky one, we've done tons of research but haven't found the perfect candidate yet. Any recommendations welcome!

Above is a bit of a mini-inspiration board for what I am hoping for in terms of look and feel - a bit of New York City glamour with lots of white and a dash of mixed metallics. Flowers and invitations are done and I love them both. I'll be sure to do a round-up of the vendors we used when all is said and done. My outfit is still a bit of a work in progress. I have most of the pieces but I'm still not quite sure how it will all come together, but I'm sure it will! I've also started to explore hair and makeup options which is completely overwhelming! But we booked our plane tickets for our honeymoon this past week and the excitement is definitely setting in.

Red White and Blue

Swimsuit Dress (on sale!) | Tote | Towel |  Sunscreen

In my book, this weekend is a perfect opportunity to step back, slow down, and do a whole lot of nothing. Growing up I never loved the 4th the way I did other holidays, but since joining the working world, I've learned the very strategic importance of short summer weeks coupled with long weekends! Plus, when the holiday happens to fall on a Friday or Monday its extra golden!

We don't usually travel over the 4th, as there is something really fun about being in the city when its super quiet, as a large percentage of the population heads out east to Long Island or down to the New Jersey shore. We're planning on our long annual walk through the city, trying a few new restaurants, and if the weather holds (I'm looking at you Arthur!) heading out to the beach for the day.

What are you up to this 4th of July?

Summer Tunic

When I was about 15 I impulsively purchased a bright orangey-coral summer tunic that was so unlike anything else in my closet, (so flow-y and hippie-esq!) but it became an instant favorite. I wore that thing year after year, until it unfortunately had a bad run-in with some Clorox shower cleaner in 2010 or '11. Still, I continued to wear it until M finally told me to get rid of it. Fine, point taken! Anyway, I am happy to report that I have happily found a replacement. This version is definitely more grown-up and tailored, but still has that easy-breazy summer silhouette.

North Fork

Over Memorial Day weekend M and I got the itch to get out of the city, so we picked up a trusty Zip car from the lot across the street and headed out to Long Island to explore the North Fork. I highly recommend it as a day trip from NYC, the area is simply beautiful and much less stuffy than its better known neighbor the South Fork, i.e. the Hamptons. We stopped for brunch at the North Fork Table & Inn, drove out to the tip to see the lighthouse (which was a unfortunately a fail as it required a bit of a hike and we weren't dressed for it), had coffee at Aldo's and explored Greenport, and spent the rest of the afternoon tasting Rose in the gorgeous Croteaux tasting garden. It was one of those amazing days where you can't help but pinch yourself a little.

Signs of Spring

Beautiful flowers in my apartment and on every corner, bright nails (Essie: Lady Like & Clambake), and switching out those heavy sweaters and scarves for spring dresses, stripes and white denim.... This weekend was the first that really felt like spring in NYC, and it was glorious!

This past weekend M and I found ourselves on the Upper East side doing some wedding stuff and stopped in to Maison Kayser for a late afternoon lunch. Considering the buzz around this place and the fact that it had been on my list of places to try for a long time, I was starting to feel a bit left out by not having tried it. The Upper East side location was the first of the three NYC outposts of the famous global bakery and cafe chain.
I have to say I loved every single thing I tried - from the bread basket, to a crab and avocado tartine to a totally decadent chocolate/coffee cake we shared. I can't wait to go back for breakfast sometime and try their coffee as well, which I hear is fantastic. All in all a great spot!

This weekend we were hit with absolutely gorgeous weather, which was much, much appreciated after the awful winter we've had so far. Saturday we had a few errands to run in Soho, but first we stopped for brunch at Jack's Wife Freda. Naturally there was a super long wait, but we were both so content to stand and soak up the sun with dozens of other brunch-goers that neither of us minded in the least.

Bright Lights

M and I went out on Saturday night to check out a few places that have made it onto our Wedding Venue list. It was quite cold and I wanted an outfit that would be both warm and versatile enough to work in a variety of locations. I opted for my leather skirt from last winter paired with a favorite polka dot silk blouse. Tights, booties and my trusty black coat with a fur collar and plenty of gold baubles completed the look. We missed sunset by a few minutes hence the strange lighting, but we were both surprised by the mass of holiday lights which have gone up in our neighborhood, seemingly overnight!

Holiday Shopping with Kate Spade NY

Last night I stopped in at the Kate Spade holiday shopping event at their Soho store (they are having similar events around the country so be sure to check it out!). There were plenty of pretty sparkly things, pink champagne and laughs with my blogger friend Olivia. Thanks for a fun night Kate Spade NY!

Happy Friday

Ever have those times when you have so many things planned and then suddenly everything gets cancelled or rescheduled? That has definitely been the case this weekend, and in an odd way, I'm actually a little relieved. Sometimes I'm very happy having no plans and just going with the flow. I am getting really antsy to get out of the city for a bit and now that we don't have any big plans, this just might be the weekend to do it.

What are you doing this weekend?
